Herbal drops

Sense Bug is still coughing and I am not the type of mom that I want to take my little to the doctor about every sniffle. I also embrace the idea that there are things better for helping you then antibiotics. There are so many side effects after you take something now a days. So we decided to try out hand at making our own herbal drops. I followed the directions but instead of the dried herbs we used herbal teas to make the liquid and they turned out fantastic. I will say that it smelt like burnt molasses during the cooking process but it dissipated pretty quickly. I have an entire clean and empty candle jar with a lid to keep them fresh full. 

Gardens, rabbits, herbs..... Oh my....

My daughter (Bug) is completely over the moon about Peter rabbit and is interested in gardening. Better late then never right? So we are finding out whatever information we can.  She has been trying different herbal teas to see which ones she likes. So far chamomile and peppermint are the winners. She has been sitting through the reading of the Peter rabbit stories and is really loving them. Of course with her having a cold is probably the reason she is sitting for longer periods of time and when Bug is sick then the whole house is miserable. She takes after her daddy with that one.

Sadness

Well it's been a crazy few weeks. It seems like every time I turn around We seem to have lost one of our birds. So far we have lost a set of ducks and a few roosters. I am not so worried about the roosters as I am about the ducks. The kids LOVED every single one of those critters and something keeps breaking their hearts. I am getting tired of burying birds.  We have changed up the pens now so nothing can get in. Its a learning curve and we just have to keep moving forward. We did get lucky and found some hens for sale. YAY us! So we are slowly moving forward. The pig pens are almost finished and we have gotten started on the goats pen. Really looking forward to getting the goats. The kids are over the moon about the ones we are getting. They picked out the girls and picked the buck they will be bred to. Counting down the days.

Seeds

I ordered some seeds today and I am hoping that they will fulfill my order. The kiddos and I are hoping to figure out if we harvest vegetables and fruits at specific times if they will taste better then say if we just harvest them as is. Like if we harvest lavender while it's a full moon on a Thursday kinda stuff. I know I know you're rolling your eyes at me. I am really wanting to get the most that I can out of the items that we have.
Fingers crossed that it will work and that the order will be filled.

Cayauga ducks

First of all welcome.

We got some ducks earlier this week and not just any ducks Cayuga ducks. Wonderful little sweet hearts. They are absolutely beautiful. All black and when the sun hits them they turn this shimmery green. They are babies still, they have lost all of their baby feathers and have their adult feathers in, but they are simply the funniest little creatures. The place where we got them from had them in with a chicken without any pond and my ducks have not swam at all sense we got them. I think they think they are chickens. They are terrified of their pond. It's so silly so we have to put either a sprinkler or let the water run in the pond from the hose so the pond over flows and they can drink. My kids had a brilliant idea though They found a decoy duck and put it in the pond. They are more interested in the pond now. Right now I have some feelers out for some geese and roosters maybe I will luck out and find someone selling their hens.
